Occasionally, a barcode may not scan correctly. This can happen for several reasons, such as a damaged label or an item not yet in the system. Here’s what to do.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Check the Barcode: Ensure the barcode label is clean, flat, and not torn or smudged. Try wiping the label with a dry cloth.
- Adjust Scanning Distance: Move the scanner slightly closer to or farther from the barcode. Try scanning from a different angle.
- Clean the Scanner Lens: The scanner's lens can become dirty. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the lens clean.
- Manual Entry: If the barcode is unscannable, the ScanForce app allows for manual entry. Tap the "Manual Entry" button on the screen and carefully type the number printed below the barcode.
- Unrecognized Item: If the system does not recognize the manually entered number, do not proceed with the transaction for that item. Set the item aside in the designated area for investigation and inform your supervisor.
